More Info:
Aron Ottignon has been lauded as one of New Zealand’s finest jazz musicians and was awarded the 2003 Bells Award for Best Young Jazz Musician of the Year. Starting his career at a young age, by the time he was 11, Aron had won the award for New Zealand’s Most Outstanding Jazz Musician under the age of 25 and went on to record his own jazz trio at the age of 14.
Already, his presence in London has been noted, with the Observer Music Monthly Magazine featuring Ottignon in an article on the five best upcoming jazz musicians in the world in their November issue.
“Ottignon is serving notice that he is, potentially at least, one of the finest pianists in jazz …Not only is he a stunning player, but he’s a stunningly original player …”
Stuart Nicholson, Observer Music Monthly Magazine, UK
Aron’s quartet, Aronas, dubbed as "punk jazz", is an explosive combination of live dance, jazz and South Pacific-inspired grooves. The band draws on strong influences from Rock, Soul, Electronica and Funk. Silvery piano melodies, thumping bass riffs and powerful drumming create an intoxicating, high-energy sound. Culture Tunnels is their first album.
